It's a little long, but here it is (finally):
Music is a spiritual power, and music is composed two general ways: from the mind, or from the heart. Consequently, that is still just one way of composing. That is, the mind merely translating what the heart feels, resulting in great music which may or may not be perceived as such by the general public. However, that is still merely the first way of composing. The second way music is composed is that it isn’t composed at all; it is given to the composer in a dream or a vision. Such is the case with TerryLee WHETSTONe’s new album, “Moon Of The Drum” as far as I know. Let us take a look at three selections from “Moon Of The Drum:” Ost-A Nuwati (Nah-Wah-Tee), MoonLight Gathering (Animal People), and Moon of the Drum.
TerryLee WHETSTONe says of the flutes in those selections, “Ost-A Nuwati was done with what is called a 6 hole pocket flute from O'Deal Borge, MoonLight Gathering was done with a 4 foot long side blow base flute with 4" dia. tube, Moon Of The Drum was done with a E flute made by Brient Haynes, wood is Tiger Curl Myrtle (one of my most favorite flutes).”

TerryLee cites the reason here at CD Baby for the instrumentation of “Moon Of The Drum.” He says his fans “wanted a CD back to the basics with Flute, Drums, and Rattles.” You won’t be disappointed.
Ost-A Nuwati contains the “6 hole pocket flute from O'Deal Borge,” drum, and rattle. The flute on Ost-A Nuwati is a higher pitched flute than the others we are focusing on. The drum and rattle are played in rhythmic unison, providing powerful rhythmic support for the “6 hole(d) pocket flute from O'Deal Borge.” Next, MoonLight Gathering contains "a 4 foot long side blow base flute with 4" dia. Tube,” drum, and bird sounds. The flute on MoonLight Gathering is very low in pitch and very soothing. That is very refreshing to hear in light of the fact that many Native American flute songs are generally in the mid to high range, which is possibly due to difficulty in recording low pitched flutes, or because of availability of the instruments themselves. Last of all, Moon of the Drum “was done with an E flute made by Brient Haynes,” drum and rattle. The way the percussion instruments are used together evokes mysterious and peaceful images of the full moon for me, and one can easily tell why the flute used therein is “one of my (his) most favorite flutes.”
These songs and this album weren’t composed, they were given in my opinion. They are a blessing to anyone who chooses to listen to them, and the artistry of using the different textures from song to song makes for a great listening experience.
